FAQ

What is a pocket nappy?

A pocket nappy comes in two parts. A waterproof outer and the absorbent inserts. The waterproof outer has a pocket at the back to stuff the inserts. The inserts are the absorbent part. They are very easy to use and dry quickly.

What are liners?

Liners are not essential when using cloth nappies but you might choose to use them. They are a good way to protect the nappy when dealing with poo as they generally catch most of it. Liners are either reusable, usually made from fleece, or biodegradable. You can pop biodegradable liners in the bin and reusable liners in the wash with your nappies. We currently do not sell liners but we hope to sell them soon.

Does baby's skin get irritated by the moisture?

No. Our nappy has a fleece lining that wicks away moisture to the absorbent liners keeping your baby dry and comfortable.

How do you store dirty nappies?

You can either use a nappy bin or a wet bag to store the dirty nappies until wash day. For a nappy bin we recommend using a mesh washing bag to line the bin. That way you don't need to touch the dirty nappies again, you just put the mesh bag containing the dirty nappies straight into the washing machine.

What temperature do I wash my Pim Pam nappies?

We recommend washing our waterproof part of the nappy at 40°. The reason being is that the waterproof coating can be damaged over time if it's washed at a higher temperature like 60° for example. Our inserts and wipes can be washed at 60°.

How many nappies do I need?

We get asked this question a lot. The number of nappies you have really depends on how often you want to wash. The less washing you want to do, the more nappies you'll need. For full time, washing every 3 days we recommend 20 nappies.

What size are Pim Pam nappies?

Our nappies are OSFM (one size fits most)  We'd say that our nappies fit from about 3.5kg all the way to 16kg. Our nappies grow with your baby all the way to potty training with our adjustable snap fastenings.

How often do I need to change reusable nappies?

People often assume you need to change reusable nappies more than you would a disposable. We'd say just change as often as you would a disposable but you'll probably find you actually change your baby's nappy even less. Reusable nappies are extremely absorbent and as long as your baby hasn't done a poo then they will last a long time between changes.

Where are your products made?

We have two factories where our products are made. Our nappies, wet bags & baby wipes are made in China and our changing mats are made in Portugal.

Whilst looking into manufacturing before we started Pim Pam, we were only looking for factories in Europe. We spent several months researching manufacturing and eventually found a great family-run OEKO-TEX factory in Portugal. I flew out to Portugal to discuss manufacturing our products but for the nappies to be made there it would have just been to expensive for us as a start-up. The main reasons the minimums for nappies were so high was because a) this was a completely new product for this factory and b) because they had to import some of the fabrics i.e the bamboo from further afield making the cost per unit very high. This also didn't make sense to us to have a product made locally in Europe but importing fabrics from afar. We decided to get our changing mats made here but started to look elsewhere for our nappy production.

After another several months researching factories further afield this time in China, Turkey & India, we found a small SEDEX audited factory in China that we instantly loved as the samples they sent us were such high quality. They provide us with PUL fabric that is OEKO-TEX certified. This means all of the printing inks have been tested so they're not harmful for babies.

Nappy Fit Guide

Inserts

Our pocket nappy comes with 2 inserts. The inserts slot into the pocket at the back. Use one or two depending on required absorbency. All of our inserts are a mix of bamboo terry layers and microfibre layers.

Snaps

3x4 snaps on the front. Take any of the three bottom rows of the snaps up to the top row of three to adjust sizing. Using the bottom row achieves the smallest fit. Using none of the snaps achieves the largest fit.

Fit

Here's our helpful guid to fitting your baby's nappy.

1. Lay baby on the nappy. Keep the back low just above the top of the baby's bottom, then bring the front of the nappy up just below the belly button.

2. Pinch the front of the nappy and push into this position. This ensures the nappy sits nicely in the knicker line.

3. Fasten the nappy at the waist. Lift the sides up and over rather than straight across. This allows a nice fit around the leg.

4. Fasten the waist snaps. Make sure the fit isn't too tight ensuring you can fit 2 or 3 fingers into the waistband.

5. Remove those wandering baby hands ;)

6. Tuck away any excess fabric at the waist. Make sure the tabs are tucked into the waistline.

7. If using the rise snaps, push your fingers up between the snaps and tuck the excess fabric up (rather than down). This helps prevent leaks at the front of the legs.

8. Tuck the leg elastics into the groin, where the elastics on a pair of pants would sit.

9. There should be no gaps at the thighs. Run fingers around the leg elastic to ensure the fit is snug but comfortable.

10. Double check the back of the nappy sits just above your baby's bottom.
